How it decides

Computed on the phone, from rules you can read

About 90 ingredient rules and 3,000 label wordings, drafted from published certifier guidance. The user’s profile (Standard, Strict or Lenient) decides where scholars differ, and every result says which setting produced it.

HalalCertified by a recognized body. The certifier’s own listing wins.
Not halalA prohibited ingredient: pork and its derivatives, alcohol as an ingredient, blood.
DoubtfulAn ingredient that can come from either source, and the label does not say which.
Halal by ingredientsNothing flagged across the full ingredient list.
SCANNED · 0 41000 12345 6Fruit gummies, 5 oz
DoubtfulContains gelatin. The label does not say where it comes from.
OPEN QUESTIONIs the gelatin bovine, porcine, fish or plant?
CHECKED ONLINENo answer yet on the maker’s site or in certifier directories.

What it does

Honest by design

Every ingredient, not just a label

Most products carry no halal mark. KnowHalal reads the ingredient list itself: gelatin, enzymes, mono- and diglycerides, natural flavors.

Doubtful is a question, not an answer

When the label cannot settle it, the app shows the exact question to ask the manufacturer.

Checked online first

The maker’s own site and certifier directories are searched before anyone is emailed, with the link shown.

Find out for me

One tap emails the manufacturer the precise question. Everyone who asked is notified when they reply.

Plain words, sources shown

Every verdict is explained in everyday language with its source. The AI explains; it never decides.

No account, no ads

Free scanning, no tracking. Product data from Open Food Facts and USDA FoodData Central.

Why a GIS firm builds consumer software

A rules engine with its sources attached

KnowHalal is a data product: a reviewed rule set, a product database built from public sources, and a pipeline that settles open questions in bulk. That is the same shape as a utility data migration, with different tables.

It also keeps the team current on mobile development, backend services and release engineering, which carries directly into client field apps.
